- Iguanas store large amounts of fat in their lower jaw and neck area in order to survive times of famine. The pouch at the base of their neck is called a dewlap, and is used in display.
- Koi never stop growing and can live for centuries. One famous scarlet koi named "Hanako" (c. 1751 – July 7, 1977) was owned by several individuals and was reportedly 226 years old upon her death.
