What is Guar Gum?
Guar gum is a non-digestible soluble fiber that is produced from a bean. We only use a highly refined human grade product in all our foods. Soluble fibers are present in all animals in the form of connective tissue. When your cat consumes small prey animals they consume and abundance of soluble fiber. Soluble fiber is a natural part of your cat’s diet and one of the many reasons we use it.
The Benefits of Guar Gum
Guar gum has been extensively studied in both animals and humans and is considered safe and has been shown to have many health benefits. Guar gum has been proven to lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and will also increase glucose tolerance. As a bonus, guar gum improves glycemic control, reduces the fasting blood glucose levels and reduces the need for insulin in diabetic patients. This is one of the reasons our ZERO foods work so well on diabetic cats.
Many studies have shown that guar does not interfere with the normal digestion and absorption of glucose, protein or fat. Guar does however slow the rate of digestion, allowing your cat to feel full and satisfied longer. One of the biggest problems with cats is overeating and our foods work well on all cats including those that need to shed a few pounds.
Guar gum is used in humans and animals to alleviate GI pain, cramping, diarrhea, soft stool, nausea and excessive flatulence. Of course, like any food or supplement, too much of a good thing may cause these problems to worsen. People often get into trouble when they read about all the
many benefits of a supplement and think, well if a little is good than a lot must be better. This strategy almost always backfires. You don’t have to worry, Young Again has tested and has determined just the right amount of guar gum to use for the best results. Please do not supplement extra.
The Bottom Line
Guar gum is good for all cats, but is particularly beneficial in diabetic and overweight kitties. Guar may even help cats from becoming overweight. The most common statement that we hear from our clients is that, within two weeks their cat is acting young again and is very content. We have great food with great results and that is why you will see so many positive testimonials about our food.
